WHO IS CHARLIE CREW?
Charlie Crew is a Welsh talent belonging to Leeds United. Crew joined Leeds from Cardiff City in 2022. He is a Wales international with valuable experience across all age groups. Crew is a versatile player who plays in midfield, specifically CDM but can also play CM. Charlie is known for his midfield composure, intelligence and defensive work rate. He is right footed and has incredible vision and can pick a pass out from various areas of the pitch. He quite often plays long passes when there is no option elsewhere.

A WALES TALENT FROM THE START
So far at just 19, Crew has already represented Wales at every age group. This includes, U15,U16,U17,U18,U19 and even the men's team! Crew has captained Wales in the age groups U15-U19. The experience of being a leader from such a young age has developed Crew into the leader he is today. Crew's first taste of major tournaments came at the U17 European Championship in 2023. This tournament was a significant one as Wales U17s had never been in it before. Crew had captained Wales through two stages of qualifying to get to this point. And Wales would go on to get their first ever win in the competition defeating Poland 3-0 with Crew picking up an assist in what would be a historical moment. Crew most recently captained Wales at U19 level in games against England, Portugal and Türkiye. These were qualifying fixtures for the U19 Euros.

As well as being a leader on the international front, Crew would go on to be the Leeds U18s captain and would help them towards some pretty significant rewards. Firstly, Crew captained Leeds U18s towards a 5th place finish in the U18 PL North in a league which Leeds had not finished as high as 5th in some time. With Leeds topping some quality academies such as Newcastle, Everton, Liverpool and Blackburn Rovers. However the Young Whites were not finished there. As they would go on to reach the FA Youth Cup Final. Leeds defeated Norwich City, Brighton, Sheffield United, Liverpool and Millwall. Crew and Leeds would then go on to face the pinnacle of academy football, Manchester City. The run ended at the final hurdle as Leeds were defeated 4-0 at the Etihad Stadium. In the same season, Crew captained Leeds U21s vs OGC Nice II in the PL International Cup, they won 2-0.

OPPORTUNITIES AND REWARDS
Over the past three years, Crew has had a handful of experiences at Leeds United. In 2022, Crew was one of Leeds's scholars who would move him towards U18 football and we saw where that took him. In July 2023, Crew signed his first professional contract Leeds and after spellbinding performances in the academy and for Wales, Crew continued his development at Thorp Arch. Following on from this, Crew signed a new four-year deal in July 2024. Leeds clearly knew about the potential class that Crew could provide. In November 2024, Crew was handed his senior team debut following his impressive performances for our academy sides. Crew put on an impressive show for his amount of minutes. He was substituted on in a 3-0 victory against Plymouth Argyle.

After plenty of great opportunities at Leeds, Crew would then get the news that all young players dream about. He was handed a Wales senior team call up in a series of international friendlies Vs Slovakia and Gibraltar. This proved that Crew's hard work and dedication had paid off. He would then go on to be in the senior team again to face Türkiye in the UEFA Nations League. A moment to cherish for Crew.

SOME SOUTH YORKSHIRE EXPERIENCE
After thriving at Leeds, it was obvious Crew needed some EFL experience. Doncaster came in for him on a short term loan deal. Crew played 13 games and started 11 putting in notable performances against Harrogate Town, Tranmere Rovers and Bradford City. A total 821 minutes were played in Crew's loan deal. The most important part of his loan was Doncaster's promotion to League One. Crew played majority of the end fixtures helping Grant McCann's Rovers towards promotion. The Rovers faithful were pleased with Crew's performances, with fans being disappointed that Crew would have to go back to Leeds!

THE SECOND PHASE OF THE WELSH WIZARD
After a successful reign in Doncaster, this week, Doncaster announced they are taking Crew back on loan from Leeds. A season long loan will ensure good minutes for Crew. Crew can help to lead the charge as Doncaster will be aiming to stay in League One this season. Doncaster had their season opener last weekend and won 1-0 Vs Exeter City, with Crew familiar with the environment and previous links with his teammates, we can expect him to fit right in. Crew's calm and composed playstyle can really help weather the tough League One conditions. Over the season hopefully Crew can get in the U21 Wales team which would be another step up for him. I guess we'll have to wait and see.
