AFC Bournemouth have officially completed the signing of highly-rated French defender Bafodé Diakité, adding strength and versatility to their back line ahead of the 2025/26 Premier League season. The move is part of the club’s ambition to replace a number of defenders lost this summer.
Diakité expressed his delight at joining the Cherries, stating “I’m really happy to be here and I’m very excited to start with the team. I know the coach has great ideas which enables us to play well in the Premier League. Now I’m at the club, it’s a good opportunity to show how I can help the team going forward.”

The 24-year-old arrives from Ligue 1 side Lille in a deal reportedly worth €35 million plus €5 million in add-ons, making him one of Bournemouth’s most expensive acquisitions in history. He follows fellow French arrivals Adrien Truffert and Eli Junior Kroupi, as the club continues to tap into Ligue 1’s emerging talent pool.
Speaking about his style of play, Diakité said: “I’m a defender who likes to have the ball and play with it, and I hope to show my qualities both with and without it. I will give everything for the team and I hope we will have some great moments together.”
The centre-back is known for his composure in possession, strong passing range, and ability to contribute in both defence and attack. His adaptability allows him to operate as a central defender or full-back, making him a valuable asset for Iraola’s tactical flexibility.
As he prepares for his debut, Diakité’s commitment is clear: “I will give everything for the team.” With his ambition and skill set, the Cherries will be hoping he can play a pivotal role in their push for a strong season.
