FC Barcelona is set to strengthen its sporting division with the arrival of Joao Amaral, the former head coach of Rio Ave in Portugal, as the club’s new director of scouting.
Amaral will take over from Paulo Araujo, who announced via LinkedIn on June 30 that he would not continue with the club next season.
While awaiting official confirmation from Barcelona, Fabrizio Romano reports that the deal is already finalized. Amaral will be responsible for recruiting young talent for the Blaugrana with immediate effect.

Deco and Amaral: A Familiar Partnership
Barcelona sporting director Deco knows Amaral well from their time together at D20, the player agency where Deco previously worked. This existing relationship played a key role in bringing Amaral to the Camp Nou.
Leaving Rio Ave for a New Challenge
At the end of last season, Amaral informed Rio Ave of his decision to take on a new professional challenge, according to Mundo Deportivo. The only step remaining is for Barça to officially announce his appointment.
