Chelsea open their Champions League campaign on Wednesday night with a trip to Germany to face Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena — but the hosts are facing a major selection headache.
Injury setback for Bayern
Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany has been left short of options at left-back after Raphaël Guerreiro suffered an injury in the 5-0 win over Hamburg at the weekend.

The 31-year-old came on at half-time but was withdrawn just 18 minutes later. Following an MRI scan, Bayern confirmed on Monday that he has sustained a “minor abdominal muscle injury” and will need a spell on the sidelines.
German outlet Bild report Guerreiro will definitely miss the clash with Chelsea and the Bundesliga meeting with Hoffenheim later this week. No exact return date has been provided.
Defensive problems mounting
Guerreiro’s injury is another “bitter” blow for Kompany, who is already without Alphonso Davies and Hiroki Ito. With no fit natural left-backs in the squad, Kompany has turned to Josip Stanišić — usually a right-back — to fill the gap on the opposite flank.
