Brentford FC are reportedly setting their sights on Celtic’s prolific Japanese forward, Daizen Maeda, as a potential replacement for their star attacker Yoane Wissa, according to Ekrem Konur.
The Bees are bracing for significant changes in their attacking lineup, with Wissa attracting interest from Premier League rivals Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur, prompting the club to explore options to maintain their attacking depth.

Maeda, a 27-year-old Japanese international, has been a standout performer for Celtic in the 2024/25 season, scoring an impressive 33 goals and providing 12 assists in 51 appearances, helping the Scottish Premiership champions secure a domestic double under manager Brendan Rodgers. His pace, versatility, and relentless pressing have made him a key figure in Celtic’s high-energy system, catching the attention of several Premier League clubs.

With Brentford potentially losing both Wissa, valued at around £50 million, and Bryan Mbeumo, who is set to join Manchester United in a £71 million deal, the club is acting swiftly to reinforce their squad. Celtic, however, are holding firm on their £25 million valuation for the forward, whose contract runs until 2027.
Maeda’s high-energy style and goal-scoring prowess make him an ideal fit for Brentford’s dynamic system under new head coach Keith Andrews, who replaced Thomas Frank after the latter’s move to Tottenham. The Japanese star’s ability to play across the front line, combined with his work rate and proven track record in the Scottish Premiership and UEFA Champions League position him as a prime candidate to step into Wissa’s shoes.
