Celtic Sign Sebastian Tounekti from Hammarby on Five-Year Deal

Celtic have secured the signing of Sebastian Tounekti from Swedish side Hammarby for an undisclosed fee, with manager Brendan Rodgers confident the winger will “make a big difference” to the Scottish champions.

The 23-year-old Norway-born wide man, who has already earned two international caps for his adopted country, has signed a five-year contract at Celtic Park. He becomes the latest addition to Rodgers’ squad as the club continues to reinforce ahead of a demanding season both domestically and in Europe.

Tounekti joined Hammarby in February 2025 from Norwegian club Haugesund, and made an immediate impact, featuring in 23 matches, starting all but one, and scoring three goals. He leaves the Swedish top-flight club with Hammarby sitting second in the Allsvenskan after 22 games.

Rodgers expressed his enthusiasm about the signing, praising Tounekti’s versatility and attacking instincts.

“He will be a really exciting addition to our squad,” Rodgers told the club’s official website.

“He will give us that real added attacking intent and I am sure he can make a big difference to us. He is a quick, clever winger who can operate on both sides, creating opportunities for himself and others. Myself and our coaches are really looking forward to working with Sebastian.”

A Rising Talent with Scandinavian Roots

Tounekti began his career with Tromsdalen in Norway before earning a move to Bodø/Glimt, where he caught the eye with his pace and creativity. During his time at Bodø/Glimt, he gained further experience on loan with Dutch side Groningen in the Eredivisie.

Following his move to Haugesund in 2022, he also spent a short loan spell at Ranheim before establishing himself and eventually making the switch to Sweden.

What Tounekti Brings to Celtic

Known for his speed, agility, and ability to take on defenders, Tounekti offers a dynamic option on either flank. His technical ability and work rate make him a strong fit for Rodgers’ high-energy, attack-minded system. With Celtic competing on multiple fronts this season — including the Scottish Premiership, Scottish Cup, and UEFA Champions League — depth and flexibility in wide areas will be crucial.

The move reflects Celtic’s continued strategy of recruiting young, high-upside talent with international pedigree and room to grow. At just 23, Tounekti arrives with experience across several European leagues and appears poised to take the next step in his career in Glasgow.

Celtic fans will be eager to see the new signing in action as the club seeks to defend its domestic titles and make an impression in Europe.
