Dutch champions PSV opened up a six-point lead at the top of the Eredivisie on Matchday 13, following a dramatic weekend in which their nearest rivals faltered.
The Eindhoven-based side continued their recent run of good form with a 1-0 win away to lowly NAC Breda, as Peter Bosz’s men begin to show glimpses of the title-winning team we saw last season.
Guus Till’s headed winner, his fourth goal in two games, extended the unbeaten run in all competitions to 11 games, a spell which has seen them replace Feyenoord at the summit. They have also flourished in attack, scoring 32 goals during that period.
The latest win was not the usual demolition job we have seen recently from PSV, although, despite not adding to their tally in the second half, the hard-fought win became substantial given the results elsewhere in the Netherlands.

Feyenoord flop
Robin Van Persie is still scrambling for solutions as his second-place Feyenoord side’s title chase took another blow.
The latest episode took place in front of their passionate Rotterdam crowd, as they threw away a 2-1 lead, to lose 4-2 against an NEC side impressing in fifth.
The result echoed the hosts' recent torrid form, having now lost four of their last five games, including a Europa League defeat to Stuttgart.
It seemed set up for a routine win after Bart Nieuwkoop put Feyenoord 2-1 ahead with a neat finish. However, several defensive lapses allowed their opponents from Nijmegen to deservedly steal the points.
A sensational long-range finish from substitute Kento Shiogai finished off the scoring, catching the goalkeeper off his line in the final seconds.
Scenes reminiscent of Kenny McLean and Scotland! 🏴😉

Ajax hit a new low
In the words of Mick McCarthy, “It can’t get any worse, can it? It can.“
That seems like the best analogy to describe the gloom hovering above the Johan Cruyff Arena of late.
Managerless Ajax dropped to sixth after suffering a home loss to a newly promoted Excelsior side, who were in the bottom three at the start of the weekend. A lacklustre performance seemed fitting alongside freezing cold conditions in Amsterdam.

Ajax showed little creativity, vulnerable defending, and tactics that were simply non-existent. A performance that allowed the visitors from Rotterdam to win on the road for just the second time this season. The 36-time Dutch champions are now 14 points behind the leaders, having failed to win any of their last three home league games for the first time since the mid 70's.
Caretaker manager - fittingly called Fred Grim - has vowed for a revival starting against Benfica on Tuesday night in the Champions League. A competition that so far has seen Ajax lose all four games.
Best of the rest
Third-placed AZ failed to capitalise on the losses around them, after a 3-1 defeat away to an improving Heerenveen side. Troy Parrott, fresh from his heroics with the Republic Of Ireland side, scored the consolation. The team from Alkmaar have lost their last three games, including the 1-0 loss at Crystal Palace in the Conference League.
"A typical Troy Parrott goal!" 🦜🇮🇪

At the bottom, Heracles' astonishing revival since the sacking of their manager hit new heights. Following nine defeats in their opening 10 matches, a 4-2 win at home to Go Ahead Eagles lifted them off the bottom. They have won their last four matches, scoring 18 goals during that spell, including an 8-2 victory over PEC Zwolle.
