Erling Haaland has praised Gianluigi Donnarumma after the goalkeeper’s impressive debut in Manchester City’s 3-0 derby victory over Manchester United.
Donnarumma completed his move to City late in the summer transfer window, joining a competitive goalkeeping group that already includes new signing James Trafford, Stefan Ortega, and Marcus Bettenelli.
Fresh from winning the Champions League with PSG last season, Donnarumma was handed a starting spot in Sunday’s high-stakes clash against United. The Italian international delivered a commanding performance, keeping a clean sheet and producing a crucial second-half save to deny Bryan Mbuemo when the match was still finely balanced.
Haaland Highlights Donnarumma’s Impact
Haaland, who was named Player of the Match after his own standout display, was quick to highlight Donnarumma’s contribution.
“Don’t forget Gianluigi Donnarumma at the back - it’s easy to not speak about him because all the others played so well,” said Haaland.
“But he also had an amazing game and a clean sheet. A fantastic debut for him.

“He’s probably one of the most experienced players in the squad - he started played when he was 16-years-old.
“He’s an amazing keeper and we saw that - we knew it before too.
“He’s going to be massively important for us.”
City Strengthened for Premier League and Europe
With Haaland’s endorsement and a commanding first appearance in the Manchester derby, Donnarumma looks set to play a vital role in City’s campaign this season, strengthening their chances both in the Premier League and in Europe.
