Hull City Looking to Hijack Highly-Rate Stoke City Target

In a dramatic twist in the summer transfer window, Hull City are reportedly looking to outmaneuver Stoke City in the race to sign SC Bastia’s highly-rated winger Lamine Cisse. The 22-year-old Frenchman has emerged as one of the most exciting prospects in Ligue 2, and his performances have sparked a fierce battle between the two Championship clubs, with interest also brewing across Europe.

Rise of Lamine Cissee

A former France youth international, has been a standout performer for Bastia in the French second tier during the 2024/25 season. The versatile attacker, capable of playing as a winger, attacking midfielder, or even up front, registered an impressive nine goals and five assists in 31 appearances, showcasing his flair, pace, and eye for goal. His ability to influence games at just 22 years old has caught the attention of clubs in higher divisions, with many believing he is ready to take the next step in his career.

Cisse, who signed his first professional contract with AS Nancy-Lorraine in 2020 before joining Bastia in January 2024, has a contract with the Corsican club until June 2027. However, Bastia’s willingness to negotiate for the right price has opened the door for a potential move, with the club reportedly holding out for a fee of around £1.5 million after rejecting a £1 million bid from Stoke City.

Competition from Hull City

Stoke City, managed by Mark Robins, have been heavily linked with Cisse as they aim to bolster their squad for the 2025/26 Championship campaign. After narrowly avoiding relegation last season, the Potters are eager to make significant strides under Robins’ leadership. The manager is said to be a “big admirer” of Cisse, whose creativity and goal-scoring prowess could add a new dimension to Stoke’s attack. However, their initial bid for the winger was deemed “ridiculous” by French sources, indicating a gap in valuation between the club and Bastia.

Enter Hull City, who, according to reports from SportsBoom and other sources, have now joined the race to secure Cisse’s signature. The Tigers, under new management following the sacking of Ruben Selles after a dramatic survival on the final day of the 2024/25 season, are looking to make a statement in the transfer market. Owner Acun Ilicali is determined to push Hull City toward the upper echelons of the Championship, and Cisse’s acquisition would signal their ambition.
