La Liga president Javier Tebas quickly responded to the Real Madrid defender’s criticisms on the upcoming La Liga match between Villarreal and Barcelona in Miami.
Speaking to the media, Carvajal described the move as “a clear adulteration of the competition,” arguing that it creates unequal conditions among teams.
“It doesn’t make all teams compete under the same circumstances,” Carvajal stated. “I think it’s essential that we are fair to the players, the clubs, and the league itself. We must stand for what’s fair — and this decision is not.”
During an interview with Jugones Tebas countered, “First, I consider that the competition is not adulterated — it’s a very exquisite vision,”

He then took aim at Real Madrid and their media practices: “I thought it was more likely to adulterate the competition with all the Real Madrid TV videos from last season, which were clearly aimed at putting pressure on the refereeing body.”
Debate Over La Liga’s Expansion Continues
The exchange highlights the growing tension surrounding La Liga’s international expansion plans. While the league views overseas matches as an opportunity to grow the brand, several players and clubs remain concerned about fairness, player welfare, and the integrity of the competition.
