Leicester City Eye Free Agent Harry Toffolo as Potential Left-Back Solution

Leicester City Eye Free Agent Harry Toffolo as Potential Left-Back Solution
Leicester City are keen on Toffolo

Leicester City are reportedly considering a move for former Nottingham Forest defender Harry Toffolo, who became a free agent following the expiration of his contract with the Reds this summer.

According to journalist Alan Nixon, via his Patreon page, the Foxes are keen to bolster their defensive options as they prepare for life in the Championship after relegation from the Premier League in the 2024/25 season.

Toffolo’s Proven Championship Pedigree

Toffolo, 29, is an experienced left-back with a proven track record in the English Football League (EFL), particularly in the Championship. The Hertfordshire-born defender began his career at Norwich City, rising through their academy before making three first-team appearances. His early career saw loan spells at clubs like Swindon Town, Rotherham United, and Doncaster Rovers, which helped him gain valuable experience. Permanent moves to Millwall, Lincoln City, and Huddersfield Town followed, with Toffolo notably shining at Huddersfield, where he made 99 appearances and played a key role in their 2021/22 Championship play-off campaign, narrowly missing out on promotion.

Nottingham Forest Stint and Departure

In 2022, Toffolo joined Nottingham Forest in a reported £10m double deal alongside teammate Lewis O’Brien from Huddersfield. During his three-year stint at Forest, he made 57 appearances, including 19 and 23 in the Premier League during the 2022/23 and 2023/24 seasons, respectively. However, his game time dwindled in the 2024/25 campaign, with only four Premier League outings, prompting his release as Forest prepared for European football.

Toffolo’s Fit for Leicester’s Ambitions

Toffolo’s pedigree in the Championship makes him an attractive option for Leicester, who are aiming to secure an immediate return to the Premier League under prospective new manager Marti Cifuentes. His attacking style, demonstrated by six goals and seven assists during Huddersfield’s play-off run in 2021/22, could provide the creative spark Leicester need in their backline. However, the Foxes are not alone in their pursuit, as Toffolo has also been linked with West Brom, Norwich City, Coventry City, Sunderland, Hull City, and Scottish giants Rangers.
