Liverpool Complete Signing of Milos Kerkez
Milos Kerkez becomes Liverpool's third summer signing

Liverpool FC have officially completed the signing of Hungarian left-back Milos Kerkez from AFC Bournemouth in a deal worth approximately £40 million. The 21-year-old has signed a five-year contract with the Premier League champions, marking the club’s latest move in a busy summer transfer window. The announcement follows months of speculation and negotiations, with Kerkez’s arrival bolstering Liverpool’s defensive options under manager Arne Slot.

Kerkez, who underwent a medical earlier this week at the AXA Training Centre, expressed his excitement about joining the Reds in an exclusive interview with Liverpoolfc.com: “I’m really happy. It’s a real honour for me, a privilege to come to play for one of the biggest clubs in the world, [the] biggest club in England. I’m just really, really happy and excited.” He added, “I’m going to give everything – absolutely everything – to win trophies with the club and to hopefully score some goals at Anfield. I can’t wait to hear the roar.”

The Hungary international, who has 23 caps for his country, joins Liverpool after two impressive seasons with Bournemouth, where he made 74 appearances, scored two goals, and provided eight assists. His standout performances in the 2024-25 Premier League season, where he started all 38 league games and contributed significantly to Bournemouth’s record ninth-place finish, caught the attention of Europe’s top clubs. Kerkez’s relentless energy, attacking flair, and defensive solidity made him a prime target for Liverpool, particularly as they look to plan for the future at left-back.

Kerkez’s statistical output underlines his suitability for Liverpool’s high-pressing, attack-minded system. Last season, he recovered the ball 169 times – the fifth-most among Premier League defenders – and won possession in the attacking third 11 times, outpacing any Liverpool defender in that metric. Offensively, he created 34 chances from open play, registered five assists, and completed 22 dribbles, showcasing his ability to contribute in both phases of play. His 142 crosses and 476 passes into the final third further highlight his attacking threat, making him an ideal fit for Slot’s tactical demands.

Kerkez’s arrival comes at a time of transition for Liverpool’s full-back positions. The club recently signed Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen for £29.5 million to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold, who departed for Real Madrid. On the left, Kerkez is expected to compete with Andy Robertson, the 31-year-old Scotland captain whose contract is entering its final year and who has been linked with Atlético Madrid. Backup left-back Kostas Tsimikas could also depart, with Liverpool open to offers for the Greek international. Kerkez, a decade younger than Robertson, is seen as both a long-term successor and an immediate competitor, bringing fresh energy to the position.
