Ademola Lookman’s long-awaited move to Inter Milan has fallen through. Despite weeks of negotiations and a personal agreement between the player and the Nerazzurri, Atalanta rejected Inter’s final €45 million bid, a figure they deemed insufficient.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Nigerian forward resurfaced at Atalanta’s training ground on Tuesday after two weeks of unexplained absence and silence. Under contract until 2027, Lookman now faces possible sanctions from the club, including fines or salary deductions.

Player Frustration Boils Over
The 27-year-old, crowned African Player of the Year in 2024, had previously expressed his frustration on social media, accusing Atalanta of “months of broken promises and unfair treatment.” He claimed the rejected Inter offer matched the expectations previously set by the club’s hierarchy.

Club president Luca Percassi denied deliberately blocking the transfer. He revealed that Atalanta had an understanding with Lookman that he could leave for a major European club in 2025, but with the condition that he would not join another Italian side.
Future Uncertain Amid Squad Changes
Lookman is set to undergo individual training before a possible reintegration into Gian Piero Gasperini’s squad. His return comes at a sensitive time for Atalanta, who recently lost striker Mateo Retegui to Saudi Arabian club Al-Qadsiah, leaving the team short on attacking firepower.
