Arsenal booked their place in the next round of the FA Cup with a 2–1 victory over Mansfield Town in a game that proved to be far more competitive than many expected.
On paper, it looked like a straightforward assignment for Arsenal F.C., but as the FA Cup has reminded us for decades, these ties are rarely as simple as they appear.
Mansfield started with plenty of energy, pushed on by a lively home crowd that sensed an opportunity to cause an upset. Gunners had more of the ball but initially struggled to create clear chances against a determined defence.
The breakthrough eventually arrived just before halftime.
Noni Madueke opened the scoring in the 41st minute, cutting inside and finishing well to give us the lead. It was a timely goal that settled nerves and gave the visitors something to protect going into the second half.

If Arsenal thought the goal would quiet things down, Mansfield had other ideas.
Early in the second half, substitute Will Evans brought the home side level in the 50th minute after capitalising on a defensive mistake. The equaliser lifted the stadium, and suddenly the possibility of an FA Cup upset felt very real.
For a spell after the goal, Mansfield played with confidence and momentum, forcing us to stay alert defensively.
Just when the game began to feel uncomfortable, Arsenal produced the moment of quality that ultimately decided the tie.
Eberechi Eze stepped up in the 66th minute with a powerful strike from outside the box that beat the goalkeeper and restored our lead. It was the kind of goal that reminded everyone why Premier League sides usually find a way through these fixtures.

Even after going behind again, Mansfield refused to fold. They continued to push forward and delivered several dangerous balls into our penalty area during the closing stages.
However, the defence held firm and managed the final minutes professionally. After a tense finish and several minutes of added time, the final whistle confirmed a 2–1 victory for the Gunners.
In the end, we did what was required — progress in the FA Cup and avoid becoming the latest top-flight side to fall victim to a classic cup upset.
Mansfield deserves credit for a spirited performance that tested Arsenal for long periods, but the difference in quality eventually showed.
