Everton are closing in on the signing of Mark Travers from Bournemouth, with the Republic of Ireland international undergoing a medical ahead of a £4 million move plus add-ons.
The transfer marks the end of a nine-year spell on the south coast for the 26-year-old goalkeeper, who first joined the Cherries academy in July 2016.

From Weymouth to the Premier League
Travers began his senior career with a loan spell at Weymouth in 2017, where he memorably scored on his debut. He returned to Bournemouth and made a surprise Premier League debut in May 2019, aged just 19 years and 351 days.
He kept a clean sheet in a 1-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur, earning the Man of the Match award and becoming the 15th youngest goalkeeper ever to play in the Premier League.
Loan Spells and Championship Heroics
Following a short stint with Swindon Town in 2020/21, Travers returned to Bournemouth and enjoyed a breakout season in 2021/22. As the club’s first-choice goalkeeper, he played 45 Championship games, conceding just 39 goals and keeping 20 clean sheets as Bournemouth secured automatic promotion.
His performances earned him the Daily Echo/Micky Cave Player of the Season award, voted by fans. Travers later signed a new five-year contract — but competition increased with the arrival of Neto, pushing him down the pecking order.
Battling for Minutes and Seeking Opportunities
The following season saw Travers loaned to Stoke City, making 14 appearances before being recalled in October 2023 due to Neto’s injury.
In the 2024/25 season, Travers served as backup to Chelsea loanee Kepa Arrizabalaga, but still managed to leave his mark. Notable performances included:
- A standout display in the 1-1 draw at Aston Villa, keeping Bournemouth in the game until the final quarter.
- Starting in the historic 2-1 win over Manchester City, Bournemouth’s first-ever victory against the reigning champions.
- Two appearances against Chelsea, where Kepa was ineligible to face his parent club.
Loan to Boro and Next Chapter at Goodison Park
With game time limited, Travers joined Middlesbrough on loan in January, playing 17 times in the Championship.
Now, with Djordje Petrovic set for a medical at Bournemouth, the door is open for Travers to move on. Everton have acted quickly to secure his signature as they bolster their goalkeeping options ahead of the new Premier League season.
