Familiar Face
Eddie Howe’s admiration for Ramsdale is well known. The Newcastle manager signed the goalkeeper for Bournemouth in 2017, and the pair have maintained a strong professional relationship. Sources close to the club suggest that Howe views Ramsdale as an ideal fit for Newcastle’s long-term project, particularly as the Magpies look to strengthen their squad following a mixed Premier League campaign.
Newcastle previously showed interest in Ramsdale last summer but didn’t follow through on a move. However, their interest has now intensified after missing out on James Trafford, who is set to join Manchester City in a reported £27 million deal.
Trafford Deal Collapses, Ramsdale Emerges
Newcastle had been heavily linked with Burnley’s James Trafford as their top goalkeeping target. But in a dramatic twist, Manchester City exercised a buy-back clause to bring Trafford back to the Etihad, effectively ending Newcastle’s pursuit.
With Trafford off the table, the Tyneside club has turned to Ramsdale, whose situation at Southampton has made him an attainable target. Relegation has opened the door for a potential move to St. James’ Park.
