Real Madrid willing to pay €25 million for Konate
Liverpool defender Konate reluctant to renew his contract which expires in 2026

Liverpool have made a decisive move regarding the future of Ibrahim Konate. The Reds are open to selling the French defender this summer after he rejected a contract extention. The centre-back’s contract expires in 2026 and he has so far turned down two proposals to extend his deal with the Premier League champions. The Premier League champions are eager to avoid another drawn-out situation like that of Trent Alexander-Arnold, who left for Real Madrid for free.

Liverpool set €50m price tag

The 25-year-old centre-back has turned down proposals to renew with the Premier League champions, prompting Liverpool to set a €50m asking price for the French. While they are reluctant to sell the player, the club would rather sell now than risk losing him next season. However, according to AS, the Spanish giants are only willing to pay €20 -25 million this summer and are prepared to wait until 2026 to sign him for free if Liverpool don't lower their demands.

Liverpool refuse to budge

Despite Real Madrid's stance, Liverpool are holding firm on their valuation. The club is not prepared to give Konate away for a cut-price fee, even if it means risking his departure on a free transfer in the future. The Reds are not ruling out keeping the defender ad attempting to change his mind for the upcoming season. This is a practice successfully used with both Virgil Van Dijk and Mohammed Salah, who were eventually convinced to stay despite initial reluctance.
