Iñigo Martínez's contract at Al-Nassr includes an exit clause
Inigo Martinez set to join Saudi Arabia side Al- Nassr from Barcelona as a free agent

Iñigo Martínez has packed his bags and is ready for a new chapter in Saudi Arabia. The 34-year-old defender from Ondarroa has reached a full agreement with Al-Nassr and is now awaiting the official termination of his contract with FC Barcelona, expected this Friday, before traveling to Riyadh to finalize his move.

Two-Year Deal with Exit Clause

The Basque centre-back is set to sign a two-year contract with the Saudi Pro League club. However, according to Mundo Derpotivo, he has smartly included a release clause that allows him to leave after the first year — a move that offers him both stability and flexibility.

Given his age and the cultural and footballing differences in Saudi Arabia, Martínez wanted the freedom to make a decision season by season, depending on how well he adapts in the new culture.

The transfer had been in the works for several weeks, but everything was finalized in the last few hours. Barcelona granted Martínez permission to skip training on Thursday afternoon to begin his preparations. He said goodbye to his teammates the same day, wrapping up his chapter at the club.

Free Transfer, But Big Salary Relief for Barça

Though Iñigo Martínez is leaving on a free transfer, his exit brings a much-needed financial boost. Barça will free up 60% of his €14 million salary, amounting to a relief of around €8.4 million. While this won’t fix all of the club’s financial fair play issues, it will aid in processing new player registrations under LaLiga’s regulations.

Martínez is expected to fly to Riyadh immediately to sign with Al-Nassr and begin pre-season preparations. His arrival will add veteran experience to the Saudi club’s defense, as they continue building a high-profile squad after signing Joao Felix.

Emotional Goodbye with Laporta’s Blessing

On Friday morning, Barça president Joan Laporta made a personal visit to the Ciutat Esportiva to thank Iñigo for his contributions over the past two seasons. The meeting was described as emotional, with Laporta praising the defender’s professionalism, commitment, and character in the dressing room.

Martínez had become a respected figure among teammates and staff, leaving a positive legacy despite a short stay.
