AC Milan, have set their sights on Manchester United’s Danish striker Rasmus Højlund as they look to reinforce their attacking options for the 2025/26 season, according to Sky in Italy.
Højlund’s Struggles at Manchester United
Rasmus Højlund arrived at Manchester United in August 2023 from Atalanta for a hefty £64 million, with an additional £8 million in potential add-ons, carrying the weight of high expectations as the club’s marquee striker. At just 20 years old during his debut season, Højlund showed promise, scoring 10 Premier League goals and five in the UEFA Champions League. However, his 2024/25 campaign was less impressive, with only 10 goals in 52 appearances, including a mere four in the Premier League.

The transition from Erik ten Hag to Rúben Amorim as Manchester United’s manager has not helped Højlund’s case. The young Dane struggled to secure a consistent starting role, often losing his place to Joshua Zirkzee. His lack of clinical finishing and difficulty adapting to the Premier League’s physical and tactical demands have led to speculation about his future at Old Trafford. Despite his contract running until 2028, Manchester United appear open to offers, either for a permanent transfer or a loan deal, as they look to fund new signings like Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo.
Højlund’s Stance
Despite the swirling rumors, Højlund has publicly expressed his expectation to stay at Manchester United, stating after a Denmark friendly in June 2025, “I have a contract [until 2028], so I expect to play for Manchester United.” However, his desire for regular playing time ahead of the 2026 World Cup could sway his decision if Milan or another club guarantee him a starting role.
