Adam Lallana Announces Retirement from Professional Football
Adam Lallana has decided to call time on his professional career

Adam Lallana, the former Liverpool and England midfielder, has officially announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 37, marking the end of an illustrious career that spanned nearly two decades. The news, confirmed through a heartfelt statement on his social media, brings a close to his time in the game.

Lallana rose through the ranks of Southampton’s youth academy, where he honed the skills that would later define him: exquisite ball control, intelligent movement, and an ability to unlock defences with his vision. He made his senior debut for Southampton in 2006, quickly becoming a fan favorite at St Mary’s. Over 265 appearances for the Saints, Lallana scored 60 goals and provided 47 assists, playing a pivotal role in the club’s rise from League One back to the Premier League.

In 2014, Lallana’s performances earned him a £25 million move to Liverpool, where he would enjoy the peak of his career under managers Brendan Rodgers and Jürgen Klopp. At Liverpool, Lallana was part of the squad that won the Premier League in 2019-20, ending the club’s 30-year wait for a top-flight title, as well as the UEFA Champions League in 2019.

His versatility allowed him to thrive in multiple midfield roles, often acting as the creative heartbeat of Klopp’s high-pressing system. Despite injuries limiting his game time in later years, Lallana’s 178 appearances for Liverpool, with 22 goals and 22 assists, cemented his status as a cult hero among the Anfield faithful.

Lallana’s career also saw stints at Brighton & Hove Albion and a brief spell back at Southampton in 2024, bringing his journey full circle. His final competitive appearance came for Southampton in the 2024-25 Premier League season, a fitting farewell to the club where it all began.

On the international stage, Lallana earned 34 caps for England between 2013 and 2018, scoring three goals. He represented the Three Lions at the 2014 FIFA World Cup and UEFA Euro 2016.
