Sheffield United are advancing in talks to sign Louie Barry on a season-long loan from Aston Villa, without an option to buy. The 22-year-old was signed on loan by Ruben Selles in January last season, when he was at Hull City, but he only made 4 appearances due to injury. Barry will be hoping he can reignite the form he had at the beginning of last season when he was on loan at Stockport County.

It was reported that Barry had an agreement to re-sign with Hull permanently in a £3.5 million deal earlier in the window, which included a 50% sell-on clause for Villa. However, concerns were raised over the affordability of the deal with Hull struggling to meet the financial demands, and they still owed Villa £1 million from the loan deal he signed in January. Shortly after this was revealed, Hull was put under a three-window transfer embargo.
Barry's Loan Spells
Since joining Villa in 2020 for €1 million from Barcelona, Barry has been on 7 loan spells across both Leagues 1 and 2, including clubs such as Swindon, MK Dons and Salford. His move to Stockport County for both the 2023/24 season and the first half of the 2024/25 season has been his best so far, making 46 appearances in all competitions and scoring 25 goals and 6 assists.
He was crucial for The Hatters last season playing down the left wing and although only there until the January transfer window he scored 15 goals, which was a large factor for their 3rd place finish. If he can stay fit and maintain his good form, then he will be a vital player for Sheffield as they push for promotion back to the Premier League.
