Renato Veiga’s time at Chelsea could already be coming to an end, just a year after his arrival from FC Basel. The 21-year-old defender was loaned out to Juventus in January and, despite showing potential, may not have a future at Stamford Bridge.
Reports last month suggested that Chelsea are open to moving Veiga on permanently after failing to give him assurances about playing in his preferred position at centre-back. That’s where he featured during his spell in Italy, and it appears to be a role he wants to continue in.
Now, a potential exit route has opened up — and it could benefit Chelsea on both ends of the pitch.
Veiga Could Be Offered in Deal for Kim Min-jae
According to a report from Tuttomercatoweb, Chelsea are eyeing a possible deal for Bayern Munich defender Kim Min-jae. The Blues have maintained interest in the South Korean international for some time, having reportedly contacted people close to the player back in April.
Bayern are thought to be open to offers, and Chelsea could use Veiga as part of a player-plus-cash deal to help bring Kim to west London. The 28-year-old made 27 Bundesliga appearances last season, playing a key role under Vincent Kompany as Bayern reclaimed the title from Bayer Leverkusen.
🚨 FC Bayern have added Renato Veiga high on potential 4 options list for new centre back this summer.

Kim Brings Experience and Presence
Kim is widely regarded as one of the most reliable defenders in Europe. He stands at 6’3", has nearly 70 international caps for South Korea, and played a vital role in Napoli’s 2022–23 Serie A title-winning campaign before moving to Germany.
For a Chelsea side under Enzo Maresca looking to reinforce its backline with proven quality, Kim would bring both experience and composure.

But What About Chalobah?
While Kim would be a strong addition, Chelsea already have a capable option in Trevoh Chalobah. The 26-year-old has quietly impressed since returning from loan at Crystal Palace, even starting in the Club World Cup final against Paris Saint-Germain — a match Chelsea won 3-0.
His performance has led to calls from fans for the club to keep him, and it's easy to see why.
What Next?
With Chelsea pushing for defensive reinforcements and Veiga’s long-term role uncertain, a swap deal involving Kim Min-jae is one to watch. Whether the Blues proceed with the offer or stick with what they have in Chalobah remains to be seen — but it's clear the club is actively reshaping its defensive line heading into the new season.
