Inter Milan 1–3 Arsenal: Seven From Seven, And That’ll Do Nicely
Gyokeres back among the goalscorers

Well then. Another Champions League night, another win, another box ticked. Arsenal made it seven wins from seven in Europe this season with a thoroughly impressive 3–1 victory over Inter Milan at the San Siro last night, securing qualification with a game to spare and continuing a run that’s starting to feel properly significant.

Mikel Arteta rang the changes following the weekend draw with Nottingham Forest, making seven in total, but there was no sense of disruption early on. In fact, we started brightly, played high up the pitch, and looked every bit like a team comfortable on this stage.

The opening goal came after ten minutes, and it was a welcome moment for Gabriel Jesus. Jurrien Timber’s effort from the edge of the box wasn’t the cleanest strike you’ll ever see, but Jesus was alive to it, got the decisive touch, and suddenly we were 1–0 up away from home. Exactly the kind of start you want in a place like this.

Inter didn’t take long to respond, though, and you have to give them credit. The equaliser came via Petar Sucic, whose first-time effort from outside the box flew past David Raya. You might argue we could have closed him down quicker, but it was a quality finish and one that briefly swung the momentum.

The game settled into something more open after that, with chances at both ends, but Arsenal always looked capable of hurting them. And just after the half-hour mark, we regained the lead. Bukayo Saka was a constant menace down the right, forcing a corner which he delivered to the back post. Leandro Trossard headed it back across goal, the ball clipped the bar, and Jesus was there again to nod home from close range.

It wasn’t pretty, but it was effective, and it capped a really strong first-half display from the Brazilian. Beyond the goals, his link-up play, ball retention, and general nuisance value were exactly what we’ve been missing at times this season.

The second half was a bit more about game management. Inter had more of the ball, pressed higher, and tried to force the issue, but without creating too much that truly worried us. Arsenal, meanwhile, carried a threat on the break, with Saka continuing to torment Federico Dimarco and chances falling for Eberechi Eze and Trossard.

Arteta turned to his bench, bringing on Declan Rice and Ben White, and later Viktor Gyokeres and Gabriel Martinelli. It was Gyokeres who provided the finishing touch late on. A cleared Inter corner turned into a lightning counter, Martinelli produced a gorgeous outside-of-the-boot pass, Saka couldn’t quite bring it under control, but the ball broke kindly for Gyokeres, who finished well to make it 3–1 and put the game to bed.

That goal felt important for him, too. Strikers live on confidence, and after a tricky spell, scoring at the San Siro in the Champions League isn’t the worst way to get yourself going again.

In truth, Inter enjoyed plenty of possession without doing a great deal with it, and Arsenal looked comfortable seeing the game out. There were a couple of late bookings for Rice and Merino, which means they’ll miss the final group game, but with qualification already secured, that’s hardly the end of the world.

Afterwards, Arteta spoke about pride, hunger, and proving ourselves on a big European stage, and it was hard to argue. Seven wins from seven, top-two secured, and another away performance that underlined how far this team has come.

So yes, there’s plenty to like. Jesus rolling back the years, Saka being Saka, Zubimendi quietly running the midfield, and a squad that continues to show depth and adaptability. With one group game left to rotate and reset, attention now turns to Sunday and the visit of Manchester United.

For now, though, enjoy this one. European nights don’t get much better than this.
