The latest instalment of the new era rivalry is upon us…

Liverpool vs Arsenal has quickly become the clash of heavyweights that football fans look forward to feasting on every time it's served up - and if the last 6 meetings in the premier league are anything to go off then we're in for a treat on Sunday. Yep, when these two butt heads it's never dull; 23 goals scored across their last 6 meetings in the league, with both sides netting on each occasion, not forgetting the penalties, red cards, scuffles… just pure football drama. DON'T WE JUST LOVE IT!

Reinforcements

It's been a very busy summer for both clubs, Liverpool have spent big already with the additions of Ekitike, WirtzKerkez, Frimpong and Mamardashvili but they may not be done yet as they maintain their intentions on signing Isak, which would take their summer spending spree over the £400m mark! Arsenal have also been busy strengthening their squad with the impressive signings of GyokeresZubimendi, Eze, Madueke, Kepa, Norgaard and Mosquera which has so far cost them close to £250m but they too don't seem to have finished yet as they eye up Hincapie to replace the outgoing Kiwior. One thing's for sure, both clubs are well equipped for Sunday's battle.

State of play

Although its only gameweek 3, it already feels like there's a lot riding on this upcoming fixture. Both teams have started their respective campaigns in impressive fashion as they, along with Spurs, boast a 100% win record so far. Liverpool's new front 3 of Salah-Ekitike-Gakpo has already racked up 8 goals between them in just 2 games meanwhile Arsenal's threat from set pieces continues to prove effective and with new man Gyokeres having netted a brace last weekend against Leeds, the gunners look to be firing on all cylinders.

The bigger picture is of course whether Liverpool have what it takes to handle the pressure and retain their title as champions, or whether Arsenal will finally be able to bridge the gap and seize the league for themselves for the first time since their nonpareil 'Invincibles' campaign in 2003/04. Either way, Sunday's clash should give us a very juicy insight into this…

Come on then, who's going to win?

Everyone knows Liverpool at Anfield are always favourites to win, the place is a fortress due to their home record which is made up of 406 wins, 149 draws and just 79 defeats in 634 games in the premier league. However, Arsenal boast a pretty impressive record against Liverpool under Arteta, currently unbeaten in their last 6 meetings stretching back to 16th March 2022, and with Arsenal's improved depth and new firepower they'll be heading into this one full of confidence that the great wait for a victory at Anfield will soon be over. My prediction? Liverpool 1 – Arsenal 2.
