Aston Villa have announced that Matty Cash has signed a new contract, keeping him at the club until 2029. There is no doubt that the Polish international has been one of Villa's best players this season, not only being defensively solid, but providing an attacking threat as well.

Cash was entering the final year of his contract, so whilst it is a reward for his great performances, it is also to protect his value. With Cash now being 28-years-old, these next couple of seasons are crucial for him to show that he deserves to keep that right-back position before Villa look for younger alternatives.
Villa Career
He joined Villa for £16 million from Nottingham Forest in 2020. Since then, he has racked up 193 appearances and scored twelve goals and eleven assists. In the last few years, he has become a bit of a scapegoat for Villa supporters, heavily criticising his performances when they lose and singling him out as a player to replace. However, this season he has certainly proved his worth and has been one of the reasons why Villa have been able to turn their form around.
What has been so apparent is his improvement defensively, as last season a lot of the goals Villa conceded came from his side of the pitch. Timing tackles perfectly and his defensive positioning have been top notch so far in this campaign. It is so good to see him performing well and this new contract is thoroughly deserved.
