North London Dreams, East London Test: Arsenal Must Finish the Job Against West Ham
Declan Rice returning to West Ham's Olympic Stadium

For years, we Arsenal fans have begged for moments like this. Meaningful May football. Title pressure. European nights. Big away days with everything on the line. Now here we are again.

Today’s clash against West Ham United is not just another London derby — it feels like another massive step in what could become one of the greatest seasons in modern Arsenal history. After sealing a place in the Champions League final earlier this week, Mikel Arteta’s men return to Premier League duty knowing the mission is painfully simple: keep winning.

And yet, anyone who has followed Arsenal long enough knows there is never anything “simple” about trips to East London when titles are involved. The atmosphere around the club feels different again. The nerves from those difficult weeks in April have slowly disappeared. We are defending better, pressing harder, and playing with the kind of confidence champions usually show at this stage of the season.

Bukayo Saka‘s return continues to deliver in decisive moments, Declan Rice looks like the heartbeat of the team, and Viktor Gyökeres has added the physical edge Arsenal sometimes lacked in previous title races at the most crucial of times. Most importantly, we suddenly look ruthless again. That matters because this fixture has become one-sided in recent years. The Gunners have scored 11 goals in their last two visits to the London Stadium, completely overwhelming West Ham with movement, pace, and set-piece dominance.

This is exactly the kind of match we supporters hate feeling too comfortable about. West Ham are desperate. Relegation pressure changes everything, and Nuno Espírito Santo’s side know a result against Arsenal could transform their survival hopes. Arsenal cannot afford a slow start. The London Stadium crowd will smell anxiety if the game stays level for too long.

There is something poetic about Declan Rice potentially driving us towards the title at the ground where he once carried West Ham through difficult years. Some West Ham fans still resent the move. Arsenal fans? We’d pay the fee all over again. Rice has become everything this team needed: leadership, aggression, calmness under pressure, and elite quality in both boxes. In matches like this — hostile atmosphere, title pressure, emotional narratives — he feels built for the moment.

Expect us to dominate possession. Arteta will likely continue with MLS and Rice in midfield considering it’s kinda spark the team to life with Saka‘s unpredictable star boy performance lately. Arteta could be tempted to bring Odegaard into the starting line-up but that would mean Eze moves to the left side of the attack as I can’t imagine keeping him out of this one. The key could once again be set pieces, where Arsenal have become one of the league’s most devastating teams.

West Ham’s weakness defending corners and dead balls is well documented, and Arsenal will absolutely target it. If we score first, the game could open up quickly. This probably will not be as chaotic as the 6-0 demolition from last season.

West Ham are fighting for their lives, and we have occasionally looked cautious away from home during the run-in. But this Arsenal side feels mentally stronger now. More mature. More ruthless. Champions find ways to win ugly if necessary. And right now, we are starting to look like champions.

Prediction: West Ham 0-2 Arsenal

One more big step. One more London derby. One more chance to prove this team is finally ready to bring the title back to North London.
