Chelsea recently made the move to sign Alejandro Garnacho from Manchester United for a total fee of 40 million euros. The exciting young winger joins the blues looking to make an instant impact and make the left wing spot his own.

The story of Alejandro Garnacho

Born in Madrid, the winger found himself a part of Getafe and Atletico Madrid's youth system before making the switch to Manchester United in October 2020. After a few years in the youth set up he eventually earnt himself a first team debut just before his 18th birthday in April 2022. Garnacho made his first start for Manchester united in a 3–0 win over Moldovan team Sheriff Tiraspol in the UEFA Europa League, whereby he impressed the manager at the time and the fans were starting to sing his name. His first senior goal came in the European competition against Spanish side real Sociedad and it was famously set up by his idol Cristiano Ronaldo.

Garnacho started to showcase his charisma both on and off the pitch which went hand in hand with the way he played the game, direct, skilful and always looking to make an impact. He announced himself in the Premier Leauge with a famous bicycle kick against Everton which earned Premier League goal of the season and the goal was also nominated for Fifa's Puskas award that year. Garnacho went from strength to strength at Manchester united, eventually establishing himself as a key player for them.

In his final season with United, Garnacho made 58 appearances in all competitions, finding the net on 11 occasions and providing 10 assists. The exciting winger registered 48 goal involvements in 144 appearances for the red devils. Garnacho was first called up to the Argentina squad in March 2023, making his international debut in a friendly against Australia. The winger was apart of the squad that won the Copa America in 2024, noticeably lining up with new Chelsea teammate Enzo Fernandez.

Challenges he's faced

Alejandro Garncacho is a passionate player and has come under a spotlight in recent times for his attitude. Garnacho was eventually dropped from the Match day squad for the Manchester derby which proved to be a pivotal moment in his Career at United.

The reason he was dropped is unclear, United manager Amorim suggesting it was due to his performances in training whilst others suggest it was a result of confrontations he had with the manager.

Videos started to emerge on social media of fans verbally abusing the player outside the ground. It was clear to see that the relationship between the player and the fans had taken a sour turn.

Manchester United Manager Ruben Amorim

Expectations for Chelsea

Personally, I am very excited for Garnacho to join Chelsea and I believe that he has the talent to be a real quality addition to the squad. Seeing what he has already been able to do in the premier league under the right circumstances is impressive and he has the potential to be a real hit at Stamford Bridge. His attitude has been a problem in the past however I think his situation at Manchester United was a driving factor in that.

A fresh chapter is exactly what he needs and coming into a very competitive squad like Chelsea's will push Garnacho to his very best and I believe that he will thrive in that environment. I cant wait to see what he can do and I cannot wait to see him light up the bridge.
