Champions League Night Done Right at the Emirates
And just like that, Arsenal are packing their bags for the Champions League quarter-finals.
No drama. No chaos. No “please not again” moments. Just a composed, professional, and at times genuinely classy 2–0 win over Bayer 04 Leverkusen at the Emirates, sealing progression with a performance that said: we might actually be serious about this competition, you know.
With the tie delicately poised at 1–1 from the first leg, there was always the potential for tension. Instead, Arsenal F.C. handled it like a team that had somewhere else to be — namely, the next round.

The breakthrough came courtesy of Eberechi Eze, who decided this was as good a night as any to remind everyone he’s got a bit of magic in the locker. A superb volley in the first half, clean as you like, gave Arsenal the lead and, more importantly, a sense of control.
From there, it became a question of maturity. No unnecessary risks, no emotional overreactions — just good game management.
Then came the icing.
Declan Rice, who had been doing his usual “I’ll just quietly run the entire midfield” routine, popped up in the second half and curled in a beauty along the ground into the corner. Not power, not chaos — just precision. The kind that makes goalkeepers look like they’re stuck in buffering mode.

Player Ratings
David Raya – 8
Didn’t have loads to do, but when called upon, he delivered. One excellent second-half save to preserve the clean sheet. Calm, reliable, and quietly building a case for “best in Europe” conversations.
Ben White – 7
Back in the side and immediately rekindled that right-side chemistry with Saka. You can tell he’s still working back to full sharpness, but this was a solid reminder of what he brings.
Gabriel Magalhães – 7
Another evening, another controlled performance. Didn’t have to go full superhero mode, but still looked like a man who enjoys defending a bit too much.
William Saliba – 7
Kept things tidy, composed, and entirely under control. The opposition striker barely got a sniff — which is becoming something of a theme.
Piero Hincapié – 7
Very solid, and that last-ditch tackle in the first half? Chef’s kiss. Read the danger well and dealt with it decisively.
Martin Zubimendi – 7
A bounce-back performance. More assertive, better on the ball, and contributed defensively. Looked like himself again.
Declan Rice – 8
Ran the midfield like he had a personal vendetta against losing possession. Added a lovely goal to cap it off. Energy, control, quality — all there.
"The consistency of the performances has been key. Everyone knows their role, everyone knows their jobs."

Eberechi Eze – 8
Big moments, big player. The volley set the tone, but his all-round game — creativity, movement, tracking back — was just as impressive. Hitting form at exactly the right time.

Bukayo Saka – 6
Still not quite at his electric best. Some bright moments, especially with White overlapping, but you feel there’s another level coming. Hopefully saving it for the business end.
Leandro Trossard – 7
Busy, involved, and looked determined to make an impression after missing out at the weekend. Drifted across the attack and caused problems.
Viktor Gyökeres – 7
Didn’t score, but worked tirelessly and kept defenders occupied all night. One of those performances strikers don’t get enough credit for.
Substitutes
Christian Nørgaard – 5
A bit of a surprise cameo. Didn’t have much time to influence things, but did his job.
Gabriel Martinelli – 6
Lively when he came on. Added energy and directness.
Kai Havertz – 5
More about minutes than impact. A fitness exercise disguised as a substitution.
Myles Lewis-Skelly – N/A
Late cameo. Not enough time to get involved — but nice to see him out there.
Final Thoughts
This wasn’t just a win — it was a statement.
Efficient. Controlled. Professional. And, at times, very good to watch. Arsenal didn’t just edge past Leverkusen — they handled them.
Now it’s onto Sporting in the quarter-finals…
…but first, a small matter of a cup final at Wembley.
Because of course there is.
Football never lets you relax.
Onwards. 🔴⚪ COYG
