Ollie Tanner has committed his long-term future to Cardiff City by signing a new four-year contract with the club, keeping him at the Cardiff City Stadium until the summer of 2029. The 23-year-old winger, who joined the Bluebirds from Lewes in 2022, has established himself as an important member of the squad and played a key role in their recent League One opener against Peterborough United.
Tanner's Reaction:
Expressing his delight after signing the new deal, Tanner said:
"I love being at the Club. I’ve had a good few years here and I was really excited when the opportunity arose to stay and sign a new contract. I’m looking forward to the next four years.
“For me, it’s been unbelievable so far this season. The manager and his staff have been brilliant, and my commitment shows that I want to be a part of it. Everyone has bought into the style of football, and I’m excited for what’s to come this season."

A Point to Prove
Since his arrival, Tanner has become well-regarded for his energy, work ethic, and attacking threat from the flanks, making 31 appearances last season across all competitions. The new contract comes at a time when Cardiff are emphasising youth and development, and Tanner’s progression perfectly embodies that philosophy.
In the Championship, Ollie has shown flashes of brilliance, especially against arch-rivals Swansea where he has had success up against the likes of full-backs Josh Key and Josh Tymon. However, he can also be a source of frustration with Cardiff fans as his end product and willingness to take on his man can leave a lot to be desired at times.
At a lower level and under the tutelage of Brian Barry-Murphy, Tanner looks like he could come on leaps and bounds in his development and become a member of the team who can significantly contribute in terms of goal and assist output. Since Ollie arrived at Cardiff, he has only managed 4 goals and 5 assists, which is something he will be targeting to improve and stake his claim as one of the division's premier wide-players.

What's Next for Tanner?
With this new long-term deal, it is clear that Barry-Murphy sees the potential in Tanner and fits his long-term vision for the club. The potential is at his feet and he has the renewed backing of his manager, it is now up to Ollie to take his chance with both hands and create some more magic memories for the Bluebirds fanbase and help fire them to promotion.
