Mukiele, who spent last season on loan at Bayer Leverkusen alongside new Sunderland captain Granit Xhaka, made 24 appearences for the then undefeated champions of the Bundesliga, winning 80% of his tackles and contributing in all phases of play.
Although highly unlikely to feature against West Ham United in Sunderland’s first Premier League fixture, Mukiele will undoubtedly provide great depth and experience for the newly promoted side.
The young Frenchman also provides great versatility for the squad, being adept at both centre-back and left-back.
