After a scintillating 93rd-minute winner against Chelsea, Sunderland look to continue their Premier League march, hosting midtable Everton on Monday Night Football.

Chemsdine Talbi’s debut goal for the Black Cats, created by the supreme hold-up play of Deadline Day signing Brian Brobbey, and shoddy Chelsea defending, sees Sunderland sitting in the Champions League places in fourth after nine games, a feat thought impossible before the season began.

Squad Updates

Regis Le Bris gave injury updates on Omar Alderete and Simon Adingra during his Friday press briefing. Alderete is recovering from a concussion that saw him miss the victory at Stamford Bridge. “We still have a doubt about Omar because he is still in the concussion protocol, but he should be ok tomorrow and then the day after.”

Adingra recently picked up a hamstring injury, but Le Bris confirms “he should be okay” to feature against Everton.

Line-up Prediction

My predicted Sunderland lineup.

I predict Sunderland will return to their default 4-3-3 formation that has been the quintessential Le Bris system so far this season. Alderete’s absence saw an ideological switch to a 5-back, which bore fruit against a ‘bigger’ club like Chelsea, but I feel that tactical wrinkle will be shelved against Everton.

I predict Talbi will be rewarded for his late winner against Chelsea with a return to the Starting XI. As I’ve predicted all season, watching the ball nestle in the net is all a struggling forward needs to get themselves going again, so I feel Talbi will kick into a higher gear henceforth.

Match Prediction

The Stadium of Light will be rocking on Monday night, and I predict Sunderland will harness that energy and win 3-1 against Everton.
