Tottenham 0-1 Bournemouth - View from an armchair Tottenham fan
Thomas Frank Tottenham manager

Two weeks into the new season and Spurs fans were pretty happy. Two wins from two and excitement over the announcement of new signing Xavi Simons. Bournemouth at home was a gimme right? Wrong.

There’s two things that you can guarantee with Tottenham, losing the next match after beating Manchester City and losing a match before international duty. Tottenham fans had their Tottenham back.

Bergvall and Sarr show appreciation to fans

The boos ringing around the Tottenham stadium at half time and full time showed how disappointing Tottenham were. The 0-1 scoreline to Bournemouth flattered Tottenham, Bournemouth really should have been out of sight by half time. Tottenham did not ask a single meaningful question of Bournemouth until the last 15 minutes, when they had thrown on four substitutes and finally started getting the ball into the box. They did not have a shot on target until Lucas Bergvall from the edge of the area, after 67 minutes. Richarlison did not look on it and Kudus only started to threaten in the second half.

“On the day, with all due respect to our offensive players, none of them hit a high level,” said Frank afterwards. “That happens sometimes.”

Simons difference maker?

It was obvious to everyone watching how much of a difference Simons would have made. Whether in the No 10 slot or coming in from the left wing, he could have found the pockets of space, he could have started to ask questions of Bournemouth, he could have produced one little glimmer of magic to make something happen. He might even have turned the course of the game all by himself. That is what you pay the money for.

Randal Kolo Muani

Another player who can potentially make the difference is Randal Kolo Muani. He is a player Tottenham are close to getting in on a season-long loan from PSG on a deadline day deal. He‘s capable of playing as a forward or on the wing, using his pace and dribbling to create opportunities.

Even though Tottenham fans are used to spend weeks stewing over the last result during the international break, the new signings and decent start to the season gives us all hope for what’s to come.

It’s the hope that kills you
