What a start!

What a start!

So far, so good...

As we all pause (again) for the international break, I am basking in a new sensation for most Sky Blues fans - total satisfaction.

I have developed a fool proof stress-relief strategy. Boss being unreasonable, teenagers screaming and kicking doors, run out of milk, boiler on the blink (can you believe £3,500 for a new one?!), don't worry. Just click on BBC Sport, FotMob or your favourite footie app and navigate to the League Tables section, select Championship and all your troubles are gone.

Yes, there we seat on top of the league, UNBEATEN, looking down at 23 other teams. Played 9, won 5, drawn 4, lost - a big, fat zero. Goals for TWENTY SEVEN (12 more than any other team), Goals against 7 (bettered, just, but Boro & Stoke with 6).

When we were drawing games against lower teams, I confess to getting a bit frustrated, worried how we would get on against the better sides. Now, I can see the value of being unbeaten, the confidence coursing through the side so obvious. It makes it easier to understand how Man City and Liverpool have gone on those 20-game unbeaten runs in the past few seasons, the players have simply forgotten how to lose.

In the unlikely event that you have forgotten, let's just review some of the highlights.

Millwall Away (who would have gone above us if they had won) 4-0.

Sheffield Wednesday Away - 5-0

Derby Away - 5-3 (a game we were 3-2 down in!)

QPR at home 7-1. That's SEVEN. Have a look at the table below - QPR are in the play-offs and we put seven past them.

Of course, once the next game comes around (at home to Blackburn on Saturday 18th), the nerves will return - probably not for the players, but definitely for the fans.

That the Championship is the hardest league in the world to win is not just an age-old football cliché, it's backed up by the facts. Analysis by The Times as recently as this August found that the English second tier is more competitive than the top five European leagues, with the title race and play-offs often decided on the final day and a smaller gap between the best and worst teams.

But that's not for another 10 days. In the meantime, just cast your eyes further down the page and take a nice deep breath...
