Following Tottenham's recent capture of Xavi Simons, what can Spurs fans expect from the Dutch starlet?
Who is Xavi Simons?
Xavi Simons is an exciting Dutch attacking midfielder, who has already made 28 international appearances for his country. He came up through the infamous La Masia academy, before departing for PSG in 2019. He made his debut for the Parisians in February 2021, coming on as a substitute. In 2022, he then transferred to PSV, however, he only stayed there for one season, as PSG used their 6 million euros buy back fee, in 2023. He was immediately loaned out to RB Leipzig for the 2023/24 season and then for the 2024/25 season, where he was then purchased for 50 million euros, with a potential of an extra 31 million in clauses. Then in the Summer of 2025, Tottenham purchased the midfielder for £51.8 million, beating Chelsea to his signature. So now his background has been covered, this is what you can expect...
What can you expect from Xavi Simons?
With injuries to both James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski, Tottenham fans were crying out for an exciting replacement, and Xavi Simons is a perfect choice. Even though Simons was not first choice, he seems to be the best signing out of Simons, Ebere Eze, and Morgan Gibbs-White. He is only 22, and has got plenty of experience, playing in Europe's top leagues, as well as the Champions League. Simons will bring the flair that is currently missing from Franks side.
It was evident from Tottenham's 1-0 defeat at home to Bournemouth that creativity was needed in the side, as Pape Sarr struggled to fulfil the number 10 role that Frank was asking for him. Simons brings a goal scoring threat to Spurs, with 55 goals, and 43 assists in 169 games in his career so far. He isn't afraid to take on defenders, having a 60% dribble success rate, one of the highest in Europe.
His passing is also exceptional, having an 88% success rate, showing he possess excellent vision. This beats Arsenal's signing of Ebere Eze who has a pass completion of 85% and dribble completion of 54.9%. Tottenham fans are in for a real treat with this new signing.

Who will Xavi Simons replace?
With the injures Tottenham have got at the minute, Simons will slot in easily to the attacking midfielder role, behind either Richarlison, or Dominic Solanke. But once both Maddison and Kulusevski return to the starting 11, Xavi Simons will most likely shift out to left winger, allowing Kulusevski to play behind the striker. Simons is very versatile, meaning be will be able to slot into the side wherever.
Unless anymore signings are made, it will most likely be a three of Kudus, Kulusevski and Simons, playing behind Richarlison or Solanke once he returns from injury. This results in James Maddison either playing in centre midfield alongside Bentancur, Sarr or Bergvall, or Thomas Frank leaves him on the bench. This could a selection headache for Frank, and that is not something Tottenham fans are used t0.
As Tottenham fans anticipate Xavi Simons' debut at West Ham, in less than two weeks, will Simons be able to match expectations, especially taking the number 7 shirts, from Heung Min Son? Only time will tell for Tottenham's new star.
