Aston Villa have completed the signing of Dutch goalkeeper Marco Bizot from Brest. The 34-year-old, who had one year left on his current deal, joins for a low-cost fee following a successful couple of seasons at Brest. Bizot has made one appearance for his country back in 2020.

Experience, Experience, Experience
After joining Brest from AZ Alkmaar, where he made 184 appearances, in 2021, Bizot has gone on to make 148 appearances for the French side. Last season he appeared 41 times in all competitions, including 9 in the Champions League, and has kept 12 clean sheets.
Following the departure of Robin Olsen, after his contract expired in the summer, Biozt is likely to serve as Villa's No 2, providing a wealth of experience. With the new Premier League season being Bizot's 15th season in professional football, he will be regarded as a reliable backup to Emiliano Martinez, when called upon. Should Martinez stay at Villa, Bizot is likely to make his debut against Newcastle on the opening day of the season, following Martinez's red card against Manchester United on the final game of last season.

Emery's Goalkeeping Style
Unai Emery likes his goalkeepers to be comfortable on the ball when in possession and acting as a sweeper when out of it. It is a feature of his Aston Villa team to play out from the back under pressure, with Emiliano Martinez being a crucial piece to his system. Bizot will have four weeks until the opening game of the season to learn how Emery wants him to play, but with how detailed orientated Emery is and eight pre-season games coming up, there will be no doubts from Villa's staff that he will be ready when needed.
Bizot is Aston Villa's second summer signing, after 19-year-old striker Zepiqueno Redmond joined on a free transfer following the expiration of his contract with Feyenoord.
