Everton Have Bid Rejected for Aston Villa Captain
McGinn was appointed Aston Villa captain in 2022

Everton have had an £18 million bid rejected for Aston Villa captain John McGinn. Villa consider McGinn not for sale and are planning to discuss a new contract with the Scotsman amid interest from Everton and Newcastle. The 30-year-old is viewed as an integral part to Unai Emery's team with the Spaniard desperate to keep hold of him.

Everton have already signed another midfielder in Keirnan Dewsbury-Hall from Chelsea for £25 million, but it seems David Moyes is keen to add some more experience to his team. It looks like they will have to look at other targets as it is highly unlikely McGinn would leave Villa this summer.

Captain, Leader, Machine

McGinn is a dream to have for any manager in their team. His work rate and leadership alongside his hilarious personality makes him a fan favourite among Villa supporters. Since joining Villa from Hibernian in 2018 for only £2.5 million, McGinn has gone on to make 285 appearances, scoring 30 goals and 40 assists. Consistency has been a large part of his game where he has been ever-present for the Villans, managing to stay injury-free for the majority of his Villa career. In the last two seasons alone, McGinn has racked up 102 appearances in all competitions, providing Villa with stability in their midfield.

Off the field, both Villa players and his manager have spoken of how crucial McGinn is to the dressing room. Cracking jokes when noticing a player is down and being the person to speak to Emery on behalf of his team, shows how much he does for his teammates. It's his character and professionalism that makes him a favourite in the dressing room. Always leading by example and setting the tone in matches, McGinn gives players an "extra boost" according to teammate Ezri Konsa.

New Contract

McGinn's current contract runs until 2027, but Villa are said to be wanting to discuss a new deal to warn off clubs interested. Talks are expected to take place in the coming weeks with McGinn very likely to agree to new terms and remain at Aston Villa for the foreseeable future.
