Cardiff City finally kickstarted their Championship campaign in style, producing a vibrant, attack-minded display to secure a thoroughly deserved 3-1 victory over Charlton Athletic at the Cardiff City Stadium.
After a frustrating seven-match winless start to the league season, Brian Barry-Murphy’s side delivered the clinical edge that had eluded them in recent weeks. A quick-fire first-half double put the Bluebirds in total control, before a composed second-half performance ensured all three points remained in South Wales.
While Charlton briefly threatened a comeback after pulling a goal back before the break, Cardiff never looked in genuine danger of letting their lead slip. Backed by a noisy home crowd, the Bluebirds combined sharp passing combinations with defensive discipline to earn a victory that felt as much a relief as a statement of intent.
Moylan Spark Sets the Early Tone
Barry-Murphy named an unchanged starting XI for the third consecutive fixture, and the Bluebirds immediately set out to establish control after surviving a few early half-chances from Charlton.

Salech Strikes Before Addicks Counter
Cardiff’s territorial pressure paid off again before the half-hour mark. Salech, who had already provided the assist for the opener, turned goalscorer with a fine piece of individual play inside the penalty box. Stunner Seals the Points
The intensity resumed immediately after the restart with both teams searching for the crucial fourth goal of the afternoon. Former Bluebirds loanee Karlan Grant threatened an equaliser for the Addicks when he struck the side netting, before Colwill forced another stop from Okonkwo with a header at the opposite end.
Cardiff re-established their two-goal cushion just past the hour mark with the finest goal of the match. Moylan played a crisp one-two with Ollie Tanner on the edge of the area, lined up his shot, and struck an unstoppable strike into the top corner at the near post to bag his brace and make it 3-1.

Nathan Trott (6.5/10): Largely untested, though some poor distribution lead to Charlton's goal.
Perry Ng (7/10): A solid afternoon, and looked comfortable for large periods of the game.
Gabriel Osho (8/10): One of his best games in a Cardiff shirt, composed throughout and formed a great partnership with Bielik.
Krystian Bielik (8/10): Marshalled the defense expertly with Osho, kept Miles Leaburn extremely quiet.
Joel Bagan (7/10): Solid on the left side of defence, helping Cardiff dominate possession and keep Charlton's wide play contained. His movement going forward also gave Cardiff a good outlet.
Alex Robertson (8/10): Initiated the opening goal and dictated the tempo in central midfield throughout. Classy performance.
