Leeds United are ready to step up a search for a new number nine, as they gear up for their first season back in the Premier League.

It has been a busy summer at Elland Road so far, with Jaka Bijol, Lukas Nmecha, Sebastiaan Bornauw and Gabriel Gudmundsson all joining the club. Reinforcements are necessary to mount a battle to stay up in an ever competitive Premier League.

Sargent A Target

Despite already brining one forward through the door in Lukas Nmecha, Farke is reportedly ready to target another frontman. According to Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, USA international Josh Sargent has admirers at Elland Road.

“Josh Sargent is still one that’s very much on their radar. Burnley are also very interested, they like him an awful lot.”

Sargent has been consistently linked with Leeds United over the past 12 months, so the interest is there.

Sargent vs Piroe

In the 2024/25 EFL Championship season, Josh Sargent and Joël Piroe both showcased their goal-scoring prowess as key strikers for Norwich City and Leeds United.. Sargent, playing for Norwich, had an impressive campaign, netting 15 goals in 29 appearances, averaging 0.5 goals per game

Sargent’s physicality was a standout, with superior duel-winning and aerial ability, making him a vital outlet for his team in holding off defenders and winning fouls. His work rate out of possession and versatility added a dynamic edge to Norwich’s attack, earning him a spot in the EFL Team of the Season and the Norwich City Player of the Season award, as voted by supporters.

Joël Piroe, on the other hand, led Leeds United’s attack with 19 goals in 46 matches, averaging 0.4 goals per game, slightly below Sargent’s rate. Piroe showcased his excellent finishing and playmaking ability throughout the season, however, doubts linger about Piroe’s suitability for the Premier League.

Combining the two could be the perfect option for Daniel Farke, leaving both men to battle it out for the starting striker spot at Leeds United next season.
