Manchester United are reportedly weighing a move for Aston Villa and Argentina goalkeeper Emi Martínez, as the club prepares for a summer shake-up following a disappointing season.
Andre Onana has struggled to produce the goods since signing from Inter Milan in 2023, while Altay Bayındır has been linked with a move back to the Turkish Süper Lig. This has opened speculation that Ruben Amorim may target Emi Martinez to solve a problem position.
Martínez, 32, has become one of the most dependable goalkeepers in European football. His performances for Argentina – including match-winning displays at the World Cup and Copa América – have cemented his reputation as a world-class shot-stopper.

At club level, he has played a crucial role in Aston Villa’s rise under Unai Emery, helping them secure Champions League qualification for the first time in decades. His leadership, composure under pressure, and penalty-saving ability make him a standout candidate for any top side.
Aston Villa are under pressure to balance their books to meet the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability Rules. While Martínez is a fan favourite and remains under contract until 2027, Villa could be tempted to cash in if a significant offer arrives.
Manchester United are not alone in their admiration. Clubs such as Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Chelsea, and even former side Arsenal have been linked with the Argentine. Martínez, however, is said to be keen on remaining in Europe at the highest level — and a move to a club like United, where fellow Argentine Lisandro Martínez plays, could prove appealing.
Martínez would bring a vastly different profile to United's goalkeeping position — less flair with the ball at his feet than Onana, but arguably more stability and leadership in the box. His commanding presence and experience on the biggest stages would be a huge asset to a United squad in transition.
