Dutch goalkeeper Robin Roefs has completed his transfer to newly promoted Sunderland this morning. The 22-year-old shot stopper, formerly of Eredivisie side NEC Nijmegen, signed a 5-year contract for an undisclosed fee, the club announced on their social media.

Addressing a Weakness in the Squad
Sunderland's somewhat tumultuous preseason to date has exposed a gaping hole in their backline for Robin Roefs to fill, thanks to the reported nagging injury to former starting keeper Anthony Patterson. Backup keepers Simon Moore and Blondy Nna Noukeu have left a lot to be desired in net for the Black Cats in a draw with Sevilla, and losses to Sporting Lisbon, Heart of Midlothian, and Hull City.

A Record-Breaking Transfer Window
The Black Cats haven't wasted any time improving their squad over the transfer window so far, smashing the club record transfer fee multiple times. The Β£13.6 million deal for Didier Ndong in January 2015 has been beaten six times this window, the largest being the Β£31.5 million splash for Habib Diarra from RC Strasbourg.
