Match Report: Aston Villa vs Bournemouth
Aston Villa vs Bournemouth, Sunday 9th November, 14:00 GMT (Barrington Combs/PA)

Aston Villa hammered Bournemouth 4-0, in what was a sublime and dominant performance. Unai Emery's record against Andoni Iraola now extends to seven matches unbeaten. Villa move up to sixth place, just two points off Chelsea in third. Meanwhile, the Cherries drop down to ninth, but are only one point off the top four.

Aston Villa Performance

The Villans were a lot more dynamic than their usual slow and methodical build-up, to nullify the intense Bournemouth press. It certainly caused the visitors some problems, with early chances testing Petrovic in goal.

Matty Cash was played through by Kamara in the ninth minute, one-on-one with Petrovic, who was caught in no man's land, but Cash's lob didn't have enough height to get over the Serbian. Kamara then had a chance of his own, only a few minutes later. His shot from the outside of the box, was parried behind for a corner.

What was consistent throughout the first half, was Villa's intensity and bite to win the ball back, which troubled Bournemouth trying to get up the pitch. The opener came from Emi Buendía's superbly struck free kick. His knuckleball rooted Petrovic to the ground, as the ball was placed into the back of the net.

Bournemouth kept getting pegged back, with Villa continuing to knock on the door. This time Pau Torres had a great chance. McGinn's cross was headed by the Spaniard to Watkins, but Jimenez made a crucial interception to prevent a certain goal.

A VAR check for a possible penalty on Onana, was swiftly waved away, before Watkins had an opportunity to double their advantage. A free kick was swung into the box and after the ball failed to be cleared, Buendía's header towards goal couldn't be turned by Watkins past Petrovic.

The second came soon after, when the ball was played wide to Rogers, who drove into the box, past Jimenez and laid it back for Onana to drill a shot into the bottom corner. 2-0 heading into halftime was a flattering scoreline for Bournemouth, who were lucky they weren't three or four down.

After the break, Iraloa's side started to get back into the game, whilst Villa struggled to keep the ball. Pressure started to build and the atmosphere around Villa Park was tense. Rogers' handball in the box gave Semenyo a chance from the penalty spot, but Martínez came out on top.

Momentum shifted back Villa's way and they hunted for more goals. A corner whipped in by Digne was flicked on at the front post by Barkley to make it 3-0.

Five minutes later, another corner led to the fourth, this time it was worked short to Sancho, who drilled it across to Tielemans on the edge of the box. He fired a shot towards goal, taking a deflection off the heels of Malen, topping off a fantastic performance.

Emery will be ecstatic with the way his Villa side played from start to finish. They out-worked and out-played the league's most energetic team and Villa Park continues to be a fortress.

Bournemouth Performance

For the opening 45 minutes, Bournemouth were dominated. They failed to pose a threat to Villa and struggled to keep a hold of the ball. No clear cut chances were created in the first half and they were lucky to only be 2-0 down at the break.

They began to play much better at the start of the second half. A counter-attack from a Villa corner, allowed Semenyo to drive forward, before being brought down by McGinn. The ball fell to Scott, who had his shot nearly loop over Martínez via a deflection. Evanilson struck the post soon after and the pressure started to mount on Villa.

A vital moment in the game came in the 65th minute, as Bournemouth were awarded a penalty. Semenyo stepped up to take it and Martínez got down well to his right to keep it out, dealing a damaging blow to their hopes of clinching some points. Few chances came after that and Villa made them pay.

Iraola will be hugely disappointed by their performance and will certainly expect an improvement in their next match. Two losses in a row, although to challenging teams, will give them work to do over the international break.

Looking Ahead

Villa head to Elland Road to take on Leeds in their next match, as they look to break into the top four.

Bournemouth on the other hand host West Ham, who have started to find some form, having won their previous two games.
